Anthropologie

So I am indulging in holiday season luxuries and considering my first Anthropologie purchase...
I've always been quite a JCrew girl and I never really got into Anthro, but I see that may have been a mistake...

What do you do when Google doesn't help?

Normally, when I need an answer to something, I "google" it. Life has been throwing a lot of questions at me lately that Google and a well cited Wikipedia page cannot help me with. The historian in me wants answers to everything. It's almost painful when someone throws me a question I can't solve.

A year ago a friend of my family was killed in the war by someone on our side. A few weeks ago one of the most beautiful families I know lost their mother to cancer. Yesterday my best friend's sister woke to a dead husband. Today we learned that a little boy in second grade my friend is very close to has lost his battle with cancer, and isn't expected to make it to Christmas.

The whole "why does God let bad things happen to good people" thing was never an issue with me. I have such faith that everything happens for a reason and like it is supposed to. Sometimes sad things happen but it's ok because it is part of the plan. I know all of these people have gone on to or will go on to things so much better than anything I can imagine, I'm not worried about them. But the people left here, that is what is unfair. The parents without their sons, the children without their mother, the wife without her husband.

The whole good people and bad things question feels really relevant right now.

Trying to get back in the game...

Oooh I am trying to get back in the blogging mood. I've made a few pathetic little attempts, but still seem to be failing miserably. Here's another little pathetic attempt, bear with me!

It's one of those horrible quizzes. Write something in google and copy and paste the first picture. I'm a little ashamed of myself for doing this but it's a lot better than research papers and I've got that awful salsa after taste in my mouth and nothing better to do.

Why wouldn't I leave my pictures at Hacienda?

I spent a good amount of time yesterday editing a picture of the BF and I. I asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he requested a picture of us. I started thinking about it and it's really kind of weird that neither of us have any physical pictures (non-Facebook) of us together. So this photo had to be good.
Well after copious editing, I sent them to Wal-Mart via their website (best. invention. ever.) and picked them up on the way to dinner with some girlfriends.
In the parking lot of Hacienda I took a moment to consider my options. I could leave the pictures in the car and they would be perfectly safe. The sun would be down soon and it was already in the 60s, nothing would hurt them. Or, I could take them in and brag about my very cute picture. Option 2, definitely.

Well, that sure bit me in the ass. Totally forgot them there so now I have to take another drive to Warsaw to go get them. Oh well!

Sequined Sweater

Ok it's not as garish as it sounds, I swear. In fact, I even bought the F21 model and it looks super cute with dark jeans and gold flats. I considered silver, but decided it'd be too matchy...

F21 Version- $19.98
JCrew- $135.00

Come on! I mean I looove my JCrew, and the outlet at my local mall is one of my favorite haunts. But hello, this is like no contest.

JCrew Looks at Forever 21 Prices?

My goal in life is to look like a JCrew model. A really short one without a stylist, but nonetheless...
As a college student, my budget really supports more of an H&M or Forever 21 kind of look. Just because that's what I can afford does not mean I need to walk out of the store in a hot pink ruffle skirt, tube top, with neon nail polish. Some of the gorgeous looks of my beloved JCrew are easily recreated with F21 pieces.
I loooove this look! Either cardi from F21 would work, I'm partial to the stripes because that model had great jewelry on... I'm not including the skirt because student teaching is over and I plan on pairing any and all outfits with blue jeans these days.

The JCrew look roles in around $330 (not including the skirt)
The F21 look comes in at around $30

Contemporary Christian Love Songs Suitable for a Wedding...

Hermione and Ron are finally tying the knot! The BF and I got to watch these two pull through the ups and downs and come out stronger on the other side. They are a fantastic couple and probably the funniest people I've ever met. The last time we met up with them at Baskin Robbins in Valpo we spent hours laughing and planning how they will juggle their fleet of ushers (seven in all I believe).

Well, Hermione asked me to sing in her wedding and I am absolutely ecstatic about the idea! BUT. I can't find a song! She wants a contemporary Christian love song. I have to say, my experience with Christian music pretty much ends with my undying love for Relient K and a few others that I'll sometimes catch on the radio. I'm looking, but this is hard!

Reevaluate

I have spent all day celebrating because I'm done with all of my tests and papers for the next few weeks. My bronchitis is going away, I had nothing to do tonight, and I'm going to Chicago this weekend. Life was good.
And then I found out my favorite campers' mother passed away from cancer yesterday. By the end of one summer with these kids they feel like your own. I would step in front of any car to save them and I would hurt anyone that tried to hurt them. By the end of two summers they legitimately feel like part of your family. I've been there for four summers and I love all of those kids. I miss them when we aren't in camp and I would literally do absolutely anything for them. Some of them especially touch your heart and this family did that for me. Twin little boys and a beautiful young lady. The boys are too young to truly understand and the girl is going to have to be a little woman now. Their lives are going to change drastically and forever. Life is not fair and God allows things to happen that we cannot ever hope to understand. I know that everything happens for a reason, life happens like it's supposed to happen, but these kids have such a tough road. I can't imagine dealing with this at 23, these kids are 6 and 10. All I want to do right now is hug them and tell them it will all be ok...

Almost Grad

Raise your hand if you're a super senior! (My hand is fully in the air right now) I am officially a super senior. I got to watch the BF, Hermione, Ron, Luna, and many more walk down that aisle in their gold and black and receive those ever elusive (for me) degrees. And it actually wasn't awful. In fact it's working out quite well, Lord knows if I'd had graduated I'd have no idea what to do next. I really did enjoy student teaching these last few months, but I feel  like if I got a job teaching I'd get comfortable and that'd be it forever. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, a number of very lovely teachers read this blog,  both of my parents are teachers, each grandparent worked at a school at one point, clearly I am a fan of teachers. But there are a few other things I'd like to try first. Plus I can't overcome this hope to live in the city for a few year and I can't help but think that inner-city troubled teens would eat Miss G alive.

My extra semester at MC is helpful for other reasons too. This gives the BF  a chance to get settled. If, at the end of that lonely semester we are still together (fingers crossed) it'd be far easier for me to have an idea of where to look for jobs or continue my education. He's been split between two schools, IIT in Chicago  and Ball State. Now of course I've been secretly rooting for IIT (I guess not so secretly now). I love me some Chicago. And then I could live at home and save some money for a bit while still being able to have pretty easy access to him. IIT is a private school across the street from Centennial Field (it's one MAJOR flaw) in the neighborhood of Bronzeville. It's in this amazing historic part of Chicago and it's one of the big up and coming neighborhoods, which means it's still pretty cheap but prices are likely to sky rocket in the next decade. However, its masters program in Landscape Architecture is just a baby. While the school as a whole is incredibly well respected and has many famous architects affiliated with it, the program is very young (under 5 years) and somewhat unknown.

Ball State is in the bustling metropolis of Muncie. Oh yeah, corn fields. However, at just about an hour from Indianapolis, it still affords me the option of living in the city. The thing about Ball State is that over 100 students apply to get into this program and they accept less than 20. The BF is one of those 20. Not only that, but Design Intelligence (2009) lists BSU as number 5 in the country for masters programs in Landscape Architecture rolling in right after Harvard and beating out Cornell and Berkeley. Am I bragging? Yes, thank you for noticing. Basically the BF has pretty bright prospects either way in one of the few careers that has been growing over the last few years.

On a different note, I hope to get my back in my blogging routine this summer. Fingers crossed that this is the first of many summer 2010 blogs!

SRT Quote of the Day

Two seniors and one junior arguing about the importance of having an ID that shows you're a senior...

Junior: Like an ID matters in the real world...

Senior 1: It does!

Senior 2: If you don't have this you're probably a terrorist.

Senior 1: And we don't want you in this country.

Senior 2: Yeah, forget about this classroom. We don't want you in this country.

So funny. Also my cooperating teacher threatened another senior that he was going to stand outside his future 2nd grade classroom and tell all the kids that he's a phony and can't teach cursive. "He's a liar! Don't believe his addition!"
As for my day, clearly so far, so good. Tony Bennett will be on campus to night to talk to our class. Should be interesting...

I am a vulgar child.

Um today pretty much sucked. First one of my students told me, "Miss G., don't you know we hate this class since Mr. So and So left?" "Um yeah, I definitely got that message." And then a professor told me that I had so much more poise and was so much more adult than I used to be. Um, what was I before? A vulgar child, apparently. I'm super tired of student teaching. Game over.

My middle school placement was so good. Seriously, super teacher over here. High school though, ugh, just ugh. The kids that are there to learn really like me, they're on board and answering questions and paying attention. But there are like 6 or 7 kids in each class that are just pissed off that I have the audacity to tell them to get their heads off their desk and pay attention. I am all sorts of ready for this to be over.

In other news, a few weeks ago Hermione and I saw Carrie Underwood in concert. So stinking good!! And check out the zoom on the camera! Some cute boy bought it for me, too bad I don't remember his name ...

About Me

My photo
I love pretty pictures and fashion, decorating and paper. I use Harry Potter pseudonyms for all of my friends because as of now they are skeptical of the blogging world. I expect when we grow and up and move away and have babies we will all have blogs because that seems to be the thing to do. And when that day comes I will laugh and gleefully answer all their questions about blogger, thankful that they can finally share in the obsession with me! And secretly, I will be very proud that my archives stretch back much farther then theirs. Pennies From Heaven is where I write everything. I put my favorite photographs there, my favorite fashions, thoughts, stories, and humorous conversations between Hermione and I.
